Evan Schwartz's Webonomics: Nine Essential Principles for Growing Your Business on the World Wide Web is destined to be a classic for Web commerce in the same way that Crossing the Chasm is for high-tech marketing. The author provides well-written and entertaining field notes on how businesses succeed on the Web. Schwartz illustrates his conclusions, which include such wise gems as "Consumers must be compensated for disclosing information about themselves," with a witty style derived from his experience with both Wired and Business Week. The book's strengths are that it reads like the kind of book you'd bring on vacation and that it requires no technical knowledge of building a Web site. Anyone who wants to do business on the Web will enjoy Webonomics. Add it to your library and it will pay for itself many times over.
Business and Investment Editor's Recommended Book, 05/01/97 -- Simply one of the most intelligent and informative books yet to appear on the commercial possibilities of the Net. Through an insightful examination of the various forces that are driving "the new Web economy," it defines and dissects a series of fundamental concepts that businesses can utilize to build a profitable online presence.
Reader from Boston, Massachussetts, 06/28/98 -- Fantastic, eloquent, entertaining read. Absolute must read for anyone trying to understand the ins-and-outs of doing business on the web. Chock full of great examples of what works, what doesn't, and why. In addition, a fantastic, enjoyable read for people who are just curious.
Reader from Ontario, Canada, 06/21/98 -- Definitely a must read book for new to internet marketers. Well laid out, concise, and extremely valuable information for getting a head start in this new medium. It could very well happen that a second edition of this book could be written by someone who takes the principals, applies the knowledge, and discovers the next level from having the basics presented in this book. Bravo! Bravo!
